about

“El mar de junio” [ the sea of June] is a set of compositions which tries to reflect fleetingly, as if they were moving images, what I have learned, lived and experienced in a period of 6 years of sound experimentation, using electronics, loops, the electric guitar and field recordings. Some of those ideas that came out of improvisations were later transformed into these nine episodes that were written and recorded in August of 2017 and completed in the fall of the same year.

Six years of mixed emotions and memories: the magical islands of the Paraná delta river in Argentina, the scent of old Pyrenean forests, an abandoned garden by the seaside, two trips to Belgium to play music and make new friends, many “healing sounds” live sessions, where we often saw participants with tears in their eyes, showing us the evocative and mobilizing power of sound.

At the request of Mathias, in a way also a mentor of this album, who invited me to send him to his home in Brittany something that represented "soil" for me, I decided to send him, by postal mail some rosemary leaves, recently flowered on my balcony. Rosemary, whose name in latin is rosmarinus, means "dew of the sea", in reference to its beautiful blue flowers, which reminded me of the Mediterranean sea, the background colour that unifies these memories.

Barcelona, spring of 2019.

"An extraordinarily warm and thoughtful work full of light and muted color like the sea that inspired its name." Stationary Travels.

about

Ciro Berenguer Barcelona, Spain

My work as a composer is influenced by different musical traditions and genres: from European contemporary music to jazz and folk, to south American and African rhythms. I use these elements to create my own compositions which sound in a way like chamber music. Lately I’ve been adding layers of field recordings and electronics using my laptop for composing and as a live instrument. ... more
